Ep 3 – Katie O’Dwyer From Athenry Camogie Club To Playing For Ireland
In Episode 3 Tommy speaks candidly to Katie O’Dwyer about her sporting career to date. She talks about camogie with Athenry from the tender age of 5, and sporting genes passed down the generations. Community Games and All Ireland success with Athenry, then later her involvement with the Galway Intermediates and more All Ireland success. Commencing rugby for the very first time in her 20s, and winning an AIL with Railway Union.
Savoring inter-pro experience with both Connacht and Leinster, and getting the call in Sept 2019 to join the Irish International team. Achieving her first cap with Ireland in October 2020, as prop, a position she had just come into. All the while during covid restrictions while her family had to watch on television from home. She speaks about elite training and what it entails and she speaks honestly about equality for female athletes.
